Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Who picks the teams?
A. Each club has a coach who is responsible for selecting players through a closed athlete draft on May 16. Coaches are given the opportunity to attend an info night where we will have advisors on hand who have a good knowledge of a wide range of athletes in Canada, where they can ask questions and compare athletes on the draft list that they do not know.
Q. Who are the coaches/clubs?
A. We will be announcing both shortly before the draft.
Q. How many athletes are on a team?
A. Clubs have the option to select up to 12 players to their roster.
Q. When do I find out if I've been selected?
A. Athletes who have been selected to a team will be notified on May 17. Those athletes must be able to attend the live draft announcement at Lululemon on May 18.
Q. Are there any restrictions as to who can play in the league?
A. No, there are no age, location or eligibility restrictions.
Q. Will playing in the league affect my USport/CCAA eligibility?
A. No, the league does not conflict with USport or CCAA eligibility requirements. In fact, one of the reasons we started this was to provide off-season training to those athletes. USport Eligiblity guide. CCAA Eligibility guide.
Q. When will teams practice and where?
A. Practices will be once a week during the regular season (June - July) and will be scheduled by the club. Practices will be scheduled in the GTA within a reasonable travel distance.
Q. How do I increase my chances of getting picked?
A. The best way to increase your chances of being picked is to provide a highlight reel of you playing in recent, high level competition. If a coach can see you compete, he/she can gauge your level based on the video. If you are competing alongside athletes the coaches do know, they are also able to compare you to that of who they know. This is your best asset and is anyone's best asset in seeking out contracts with teams they are unable to try-out for.
Q. Why is this only available in Toronto?
A. Great question. We are testing out the league in Toronto this year, but have big plans to expand across Canada. If you're interested in working with us to establish a ONE Volleyball Premier League in your area, we would love to hear from you to see if it's the right fit. But thank you in advance for your patience as we continue to develop our programs.
